TOMORROW 5/1 IS PACKED WITH GREAT SPRING CAMPUS EVENTS - Diversity Day, Strawberry Fest, Hands Across Campus & Pack The Park!
DIVERSITY DAY & STRAWBERRY FEST 2013
Stony Brook University’s 15th Annual Diversity Day will bring members of the campus community together for a day of cross-cultural appreciation, celebration and unity. Held every spring on the Student Activities Center Plaza during Strawberry Fest, Diversity Day features a cultural showcase of performances by an array of student organizations, a diversity trivia contest and giveaways. This year’s program will take place on Wednesday, May 1, from 1 pm to 2:20 pm (Campus Life Time) and will feature performances in dance, music, singing and other cultural expressions.
A Stony Brook tradition, Diversity Day first originated in 1998 by the President’s Student Advisory Council on Diversity, which created the theme and projects to help the campus appreciate its diversity. A year later, it was held in conjunction with Strawberry Festival, a long-standing Stony Brook tradition that ushers in the spring season. The Festival, which runs from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, features an extensive menu of strawberry treats. Advance tickets are $8.45 each, available through April 30 at the campus dining centers. Tickets are $8.95 each on the day of the event.
HANDS ACROSS CAMPUS
In support of Stony Brook’s commitment to immigration reform and as part of Diversity Day’s 15th anniversary, the Stony Brook Compliments Student Organization will host a “Hands Across Campus” event on Wednesday, May 1, at 1:30 pm at the Academic Mall Fountain. As an expression of unity, community and diversity, members of the campus community are invited to come together and show their support for immigration reform by joining hands. Participants are encouraged to wear their cultural attire. This event was inspired by the recent “Campus Day of Action for Immigration Reform.” For more information, visit the Stony Brook Compliments Facebook page.
These activities are open to the Stony Brook University community. For more information, contact the Office of Multicultural Affairs at (631) 632-9968 or Campus Dining Services at (631) 632-6529.
